Dear Beman Middle School and Middletown Public Schools Community,

I am writing to provide an update regarding Beman Middle School's leadership. Effective March 31, 2025, Mrs. Kate Thomas has been appointed as the Acting Principal of Beman Middle School. Mrs. Thomas will lead the school as we continue our comprehensive search for Beman's new permanent principal, a position that will be filled for the 2025-2026 school year.

Mrs. Thomas brings valuable experience and familiarity with our district to this role. She has served as an Assistant Principal at Beman Middle School since August 2022. Prior to that, she demonstrated her leadership capabilities as an interim assistant principal at Middletown High School during the 2021-2022 school year. Mrs. Thomas has a long-standing commitment to our district, having worked for Middletown Public Schools for over 17 years, beginning her career as an elementary school social worker before becoming the district's Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinator in December 2020. Mrs. Thomas has demonstrated her dedication to our students, staff, and community repeatedly, which makes her an excellent choice to guide Beman Middle School during this transition period.

In Mrs. Thomas' absence from the Assistant Principal position, I am pleased to announce that Ms. Meg Hanly, the district's PreK-12 STEAM Director, will be stepping in to fill this important role. Ms. Hanly has been with Middletown Public Schools since January 2022. Her experience, vision, and dedication to the Middletown community make her well-suited to support Beman Middle School during this transition.

I am confident that under the leadership of Mrs. Thomas and Ms. Hanly, along with fellow members of the Beman leadership team, Ms. Niles and Mr. Mierzejewski, Beman Middle School will continue to provide an excellent educational experience for our students. To further ensure that we finish this academic year strong, I will be present at Beman Middle School two days each week to provide additional support to the students, teachers, and staff.

As we move forward with our search for a permanent principal, we will keep you informed of our progress. We value your support during this process.
